Documents
Upload contracts and agreements to the customer record and ask the AI about their contents.
A customer's documents (their contract, its annexes, their renewal agreements) usually live in someone's folder. Uploading them to the customer record puts them where the team looks for them, and it also makes them queryable: you can ask about their contents instead of reading them end to end before every call.
Uploading a document
- Open the customer record, Documents tab.
- Upload, and drag the file in.
- Fill in the details: document type, description, and tags if useful.
- Confirm.
Within seconds the document appears with its indexing status.
Which formats can be queried
Here is the distinction that matters:
| Format | Gets stored | Can be queried by AI |
|---|---|---|
| Text PDF | Yes | Yes |
| DOCX | Yes | Yes |
| Scanned PDF | Yes | No |
| Other formats | Yes | No |
A scanned PDF is a photo of a document, not text. LealUp does not run optical character recognition over it, so there is nothing to extract: the file is stored and downloadable, but the AI cannot answer about its contents.
If your contracts are scanned and you want to query them, ask legal for the original as a text PDF or a Word file. That is the difference between a file that is stored and one that answers questions.
Asking your documents
Once indexed, the document's contents join LealUp's semantic search. You can ask in plain language what a contract says (renewal terms, notice periods, pricing clauses) and get the answer with a reference back to the document.
That is what saves the full read-through before a renewal conversation.
Tips
- Upload the contract when it is signed, not when you need it. The day you need it is the day you have no time to hunt for it.
- Use the document type deliberately. It is what lets you filter later, once the account has ten files on it.
- Mind what you upload. A document on the record is visible to everyone with access to that account.
Common problems
"I uploaded a PDF and cannot ask it anything"
Almost always a scanned PDF. Open it and try selecting text with your cursor: if you cannot, it is an image, which is why it was not indexed.
"The document is not showing"
Reload the tab. If it still is not there, check that the upload finished and was not cut short.
"I need to remove a document"
You can delete it from the same tab. Note that deleting it also removes it from AI queries.
